Dear Holy Ghost Parishioners,

Simon is a layman who has a family, and has a profession. His life seemed unchangeable as a fisherman. However, Jesus saw him and called him and ever since his life changed. When Jesus had finished preaching, he told Simon to cast a net in the depths of the water. This was a big challenge for Simon who fished all night in vain catching no fish at all. Simon dared to rely on the Master's words to release the net. The next batch of fish struck him with awe and brought him to his knees in submission to Jesus’ authority and power. Abundance is a sign of God's presence in his life. It was then that he felt the distance between himself and God. 

He confessed that he was a sinner before the Holy One. Jesus came close to Simon to give him his mission: "From now on, you will be a fisherman of people." 

Simon went through a series of experiences with Jesus: the experience of acquaintance, the experience of being challenged in faith, the experience of seeing the Lord revealing himself dazzling through a batch of strange fish, and the experience of the calling and the commissioning. What can we learn from the encounter of Simon with Jesus? Encountering Jesus is entering into a dialogue, experiencing the accompaniment of the Lord, and being conscious of one’s limitation and God’ infinite power. Simon kept growing with each step of his faith Journey. 

1. Faith goes beyond conventional reasoning, beyond experience, and beyond the fatigue of the body. 

2. Faith requires us again and again to paddle out to sea and let down the net. 3. Faith requires us to leave everything behind to follow the Lord even we do not see a step ahead of us. 

4. Faith is to give it all up is to put it all under God and use all for the glory of God and for the mission of love. 

Today, Jesus still needs the cooperation of each of us. Do we dare to step into a series of experiences like Simon, paddling out to the deep sea and letting down our nets for the batch of fish? 

Lord, we don't understand why you chose Simon, a less educated and married fisherman, to be the first pope of the Church. You build the Church on a fragile rock, so that everyone will be awestruck by your infinite power. Today you also call us to paddle out to the deep sea, to live in communion with you and to put you and the mission of charity above all things: family, career, and personal agenda and interest. Give us a little bit of Simon's recklessness and courage leaving our comfortable and safe zone to paddle out to the deep sea and to dare letting down out nets for the caught.

Queridos Feligreses de Holy Ghost: 

Simón es un laico que tiene una familia y una profesión. Parecía que no cambiaría su vida de pescador. Sin embargo, Jesús lo vio y lo llamó y desde entonces su vida cambió. Cuando Jesús terminó de predicar, le dijo a Simón que echara una red en lo profundo del agua. Este fue un gran desafío para Simón, que pescó toda la noche en vano sin atrapar ningún pez. Simón se atrevió a confiar en las palabras del Maestro para soltar la red. La siguiente redada de peces lo llenó de asombro y lo hizo caer de rodillas sumiso a la autoridad y el poder de Jesús. La abundancia es una señal de la presencia de Dios en su vida. Fue entonces cuando sintió la distancia entre él y Dios. Y confesó ante el Santo que El era un pecador. Jesús se acercó a Simón para darle su misión: "De ahora en adelante, serás pescador de hombres". 

Simón vivió una serie de experiencias con Jesús: la experiencia del conocimiento, la experiencia de ser desafiado en la fe, la experiencia de ver al Señor revelándose deslumbrante a través de una extraña redada de peces, y la experiencia del llamado y de su misión. 

¿Qué podemos aprender del encuentro de Simón con Jesús? Encontrarse con Jesús es entrar en un diálogo, experimentar la presencia del Señor y ser consciente de las limitaciones propias y del poder infinito de Dios. Simón siguió creciendo con cada paso de su camino de fe. 

1) La fe va más allá del razonamientol, más allá de la experiencia y más allá del cansancio del cuerpo.

2) La fe nos exige remar una y otra vez mar adentro y echar la red. 

3) La fe nos exige dejar todo atrás para seguir al Señor aunque no veamos un paso delante de nosotros. 

4) La fe es renunciar a todo, es ponerlo todo en manos de Dios y utilizar todo para su gloria y para su misión de amor. 

Hoy, Jesús todavía necesita la ayuda de cada uno de nosotros. ¿Nos atrevemos a vivir una serie de experiencias como la de Simón, remando mar adentro y echando nuestras redes para pescar los peces? 

Señor, no entendemos por qué elegiste a Simón, un pescador casado y poco educado, para ser el primer Papa de la Iglesia. Tú construyes la Iglesia sobre una roca frágil, para que todos se asombren de tu poder infinito. Hoy también nos llamas a remar mar adentro, a vivir en comunión contigo y a ponerte a ti y a tu misión de caridad por encima de todas las cosas: familia, carrera, agenda e intereses personales. Danos un poco del valor y el coraje de Simón para dejar nuestra zona cómoda para remar mar adentro y atrevernos a echar nuestras redes para pescar los peces.
