Taize Prayer Service: An Encounter with God through Music and Silence
Prayer of the Roman Church using the beautiful music of the Community of Taizé, in France.
At the heart of this form of prayer which began in 1940 by Brother Roger Louis Schutz-Marsauche in Taize, France is the signature music that envelopes the people who attends this particular prayer service. The lyrics of the music are usually based from the Scripture. The soul, however, of this prayer service is the moment of silence. A substantial amount of silence is provided for the people to experience and listen to the voice of God. After all God speaks to us not in the bolstering sound of thunder nor in the rumblings of a colliding rocks. Rather God speaks to us in the gentle sound of a whisper (1 King 19:12-13).
The softness of the music can bring a person a sense of tranquility and the inspiring lyrics can touched the depth of one's soul. Regardless of what your prayer expression may be, one must be willing to open oneself to the Will of God.
